Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny at Small Things yarn along this week.

I cast on a new project this week.  I decided to go ahead and make Scarlett a dress from a pattern I shared in a previous yarn along.  At the time I’d purchased acrylic yarn suggested in the pattern and as much as I loved the colour, I didn’t like the feel of the acrylic yarn.  I purchased some yarn this week that was 100% wool and only $3 a ball.  It’s a very similar colour to what I was going to use.  I was also able to return the acrylic yarn that I had originally purchased.  The yarn appears quite blue in my photo, but I would describe it as more like teal (not great light here today for photos).

I won’t go on about my book this week.  Still on The Lacuna.  I don’t think I have ever taken so long to read a book before!

Can’t wait to see what everyone has been knitting this week.  Jacinta x

Wow- a whole dress! I do want to see this when you finish. I can’t make it to finish my cardigan so I really admire you!

    • Jacinta

Thankfully it is a child size 8, so not too much knitting (well that’s what I will tell myself 🙂 ). I’m sure your cardigan will come together all of a sudden! Until then, happy knitting. Jacinta x

I’ve never been good with big knits- actually everything bigger than mittens is impossible for me 😛
beautiful choice of color – good luck 🙂

    • Jacinta

I usually try to stick with smaller knits too, but I couldn’t resist this dress. Jacinta x

Gorgeous yarn! And wool is awfully nice to knit … acrylics are better than they used to be but still not quite …

    • Jacinta

So true about acrylic. Jacinta x

The wool is lovely and will make a perfect dress! I can’t wait to see progress pictures. I think I might take longer than you to read a book 😉

    • Jacinta

I think I might have to start another book so I don’t bore everyone with my sad efforts of reading The Lacuna! Jacinta

I can’t wait to see this finished! I love the blue!

    • Jacinta

Thanks Erin. Scarlett is eager to wear the dress, so I am hoping that is incentive enough to get it knitted quickly. Jacinta x

Oh I love the dress! I’m glad you found a wool to use. I odd time I knit with acrylic I find myself getting really uptight about it – it just doesn’t feel right.
Are you actually reading the whole book electronically? I can’t remember if you showed the book in previous weeks. That is definitely brave! At least you’re sticking to it? 😉

    • Jacinta

Yes, reading it as a kindle book. Definitely easier on my wrists than reading the read deal! Glad you love the dress. I am eager to get it finished, as Scarlett is really excited I’m making it for her. Jacinta x

I couldn’t make it through Lacuna! I my husband gave it to me in hard cover so I felt badly, but just stopped!:)

    • Jacinta

I’m glad it’s not just me then! Thankfully I bought it as a kindle book, so not so much of an outlay. I usually devour Babara Kingsolver books, but alas, not this time. Although it seems reading time is also at a premium at the moment as knitting and other stuff has taken up my ‘free’ time. Jacinta x

Wow! Wool at $3/skein. Where did you find it? I need to send my MIL and SIL there! Love the color and can’t wait to see the progress!!

    • Jacinta

I purchased it at Spotlight in Victoria. The brand is Moda Vera pure wool 8ply. I thought it was almost too good to be true at $3, it isn’t scratchy either. I am tempted to go and get some more at that price. Jacinta x

Cute pattern and pretty color! Glad to hear you found a yarn you liked more. There’s nothing worse than knitting with yarn you don’t like.

    • Jacinta

So true about liking yarn. I hate the feel of acrylic that feels like cotton wool. The yarn I am using now has a much nicer feel to it. Jacinta x

Good luck on the dress knitting!

    • Jacinta

Thanks Jen. It is coming along nicely. Although, still lots of knitting yet! Jacinta x

The dress looks so cute and I think you’ve picked a lovely color. What an undertaking!
I absolutely love ever single one of Barbara Kingsolver’s books…except The Lacuna. I couldn’t get through it either by reading to it or listening to it. Kudos to you for persisting!

Thanks Barb. Another Barbara Kingsolver book lover, bliss! I’m glad I am not the only one who has struggled with the book. It is so well researched and so full of detail, but it is grating on me. I feel so sad to say that about one of her books. Barbara Kingsolver is an author I’d so love to meet in person but I think this book has almost stumped me. Jacinta x

Yes, and when there is such a long time between the release of her books it is so sad to have one that is so hard to read!

        • Jacinta

You are so right Barb. Jacinta x

Its a wonderful colour and I love the pattern too. I’ve seemed to have put the knitting away so far this year as I am enjoying all the stitching. I have been madly knitting for the last few winters to get some lovely things to wear so am not so worried about it. I inherited quite a stash from my mother so there is still plenty to be knitted before I could possibly think of buying any yarn LOL.

    • Jacinta

Sometimes certain crafts have to take a sideline. I can’t wait to see all your stitching. Jacinta x
