Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny at Small Things yarn along this week.

Hurrah!  I have finished Scarlett’s dress.  I had hoped to capture some pictures of her wearing it, but Wednesday is our crazy day, so I am hoping to take some better photos of her wearing it tomorrow to her school’s winter festival.  It was a lovely knit and I am very happy with how it has turned out.

The colour is really off unfortunately, as I took the photo at 10.00pm tonight.

The colour is more like teal than bright blue

Now I am just deciding what to make for Jairah.  I have some lovely vintage and retro patterns (they have been my reading material this week!) that I am finding hard to choose from, as there are so many gorgeous patterns. I have bought this pattern for Tenneille and I have also purchased a lovely red yarn to knit it in.

Can’t wait to see what you have all been crafting this week.  Jacinta x

Keepin’ It Real

– Keepin’ It Real captures the true essence of family life that I know are fleeting, keeping this mama grounded –

The scenes that I happen upon around here are interesting to say the least.  Look who I found in the kitchen the other day.

Her name is Rainbow and she is one of Tenneille’s favourites.  Don’t you just love how she has been tied up and has a cushion to sit on.  Tenneille sure knows how to take care of her reptiles.  Rainbow sat up next to Tenneille and joined in the lunchtime conversation with an occasional roar and snacked on green olives and crunchy noodles.  I think the toys around here have it pretty good.

Hope your week is filled with real moments too.  Jacinta x

Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny at Small Things yarn along this week.

It seems that after miles upon miles of knitting, I am almost finished Scarlett’s dress.  I had hoped to have had it finished by today, but I kept stuffing up the pockets of all things (note to self, don’t try and knit late at night) and of course I was one ball short so had to go to Spotlight, which is dangerous in itself as I walked out with more than one ball of yarn.  I just need to sew up the seams and finish the neck band.  I haven’t had a chance to pick up a book this week.

Can’t wait to see what everyone else has been up to this week.  Jacinta x

Crumpets

Well what better way to honour the Queen’s birthday long weekend than to eat crumpets and have a cuppa.  Ok, I will admit we aren’t hardcore royalists, it’s just it was cold here today and we wanted something warm and yummy.  Crumpets seemed to fit the bill.  Topped with butter and local honey and we had some eyes-rolling-into-back-of-head kind of afternoon tea going on.  Crumpets are quick and easy to make, but don’t expect to have any leftover.

Ingredients:
(Makes approximately 12 crumpets)

1 cup plain flour
1 cup spelt flour (can use 2 cups of plain flour)
1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
7gm dried yeast
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt

Method:

Sift flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into mixing bowl.  In a separate jug add dried yeast to water and stir until combined.  Add liquid to dry ingredients and mix until batter is smooth.  Heat a pan over a low heat.  Place egg rings in pan and spray liberally with cooking spray.  Fill egg rings about 3/4 full with batter.  Cook on low heat for approximately 10 minutes or until crumpet is cooked through.  Place cooked crumpets on cooling rack and cook the rest of the batter in the same manner.  To serve, place cooled crumpets in a toaster and heat through.  Top with butter and honey or your choice of toppings.

Ah, long live the Queen, crumpets and hot cups of tea!  Jacinta x

Keepin’ It Real

Just thought I would share a snippet of my morning with you.  While I was tidying up in another room, Jairah took great joy in emptying clean washing out of baskets (folded and unfolded) and repurposing the baskets into trains.  He sure knows how to find the fun (and comfort) in life.  It makes for finding the pairs to sock easier too!

Do you have little laundry helpers too?  Jacinta x

A Big Stack ‘O’ Fun

We spent lots of time outdoors the last few days, seems there was a little sunshine to be enjoyed.  The kids played in all the leaves that have been abandoned by the wisteria for another year.  Apparently it is fun to have mama sweep you up with the leaves into one big stack of fun.

While playing in the leaves I asked Jairah if he could see the moon in the sky.

Looking up, he was all excited at the prospect there could be a moon.

Soon disappointment reigned as there was no moon to be seen.

I think the pictures say it all, the little heartbreaker he is.  He had me giggling with his expressions.  Priceless.  But it didn’t last long, a quick call out to sister and all was good again.

FYI, the dragon suit has spent all weekend having fun too.

Hope you all had a beautiful weekend.   Jacinta x

Yarn Along

Joining in with Ginny at Small Things yarn along this week.

I have made quite a bit of progress on Scarlett’s dress this week.  I have almost finished the back, just a few more rows.

Back of dress

As we are heading into winter I have re-visited one of my books, Seven Times The Sun, by Shea Darian.  I find this time of year I need to remember the I can keep the harmony in our home as the days shorten and our outside play is lessend.  This book is lovely helping you to guide your children through the rhythms of the day.  It is filled with lovely verses, songs, suggestions for stories and simple suggestions for keeping a little magic in your home life.  One of my favourite passages from the book, which comes from the section on celebrating bedtime is:

“Mother Night, Let them run in your fields of darkness,
Let them drink from the cup of your milky moon,

Rock them in your blanket of stars,
And when you depart, kiss their waking souls with your wisdom.”

That verse always takes my breath away.

Can’t wait to see what everyone has made/read this week.  Jacinta x
